CLAY ROCKS, MADE DURING THE WALKING WORKSHOPS, TO BE EXHIBITED AS PART OF THE HOLDEN GALLERY INSTALLATION.
Common Ground brings together three artists and designers with the aim of connecting people with nature during the global climate emergency. Layering themes of tactility and sensuality, we have participated in walking workshops each week to further our commonality. Through investigating the landscape of the Peak District on foot, we surveyed the earth from the ground up, to explore and express its complex tones and textures, history and folklore. Using materials direct from the land, including clay sourced from the caves of the Peak District, our narrative encapsulates the geologies and responses from the two main rock basins of the national park- the White Peak (carboniferous limestone) and the Dark Peak (millstone grit). We have showcased these findings in the form of a film and installation in the Holden Gallery, where we hope to translate the tactile experience of the landscape through materiality, sculpture and abstraction.
